Technology: name the business model
An IT consultancy and a subscription software vendor can share a technology label but buy differently. For a partner campaign, specify whether you need resellers, managed service providers, or software publishers. Exclude direct competitors and distinguish the business model from installed technologies.
Healthcare: define the organization
Separate hospital networks, independent practices, device suppliers, and healthcare software vendors. If you sell procurement software, ask whether the purchasing decision sits with a central organization or an individual site. Keep the scope on business functions and organizational information.
Manufacturing: choose the operating unit
A headquarters contact may not own purchasing at a plant. Define the product segment, relevant sites, and whether distributors should be excluded. A useful sample review asks whether each company makes the product in your brief and whether the role relates to your purchase category.
Financial services: split the categories
Banks, insurers, investment firms, and payment providers have different buying structures. Describe the relevant business model and operating region, then identify the function that owns your solution. Do not treat a broad sector label as confirmation of licensing or regulatory status.
Turn the brief into acceptance checks
Give two examples of suitable companies and two exclusions. Ask for the same output schema you expect at delivery. Review company fit separately from role fit, and record which fields can remain unknown before expanding the audience.
Use the sample-quality checklist or review the example field definitions.
